How Much Do Bankruptcy Lawyers in Jacksonville Charge?

Jacksonville bankruptcy attorneys’ fees vary, based on the Chapter of the Bankruptcy Code an individual has chosen to file under. For example, Jacksonville bankruptcy attorneys charge less for assistance with Chapter 7 cases than they do for assistance with Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases and Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. Filing for bankruptcy under Chapter 7 is less complex and takes less time and fewer resources than filing bankruptcy under these other two Chapters of the Bankruptcy Code. Generally speaking, Jacksonville bankruptcy attorneys’ fees for a Chapter 7 case range from $999 - $1,500. Attorneys’ fees for Chapter 13 and Chapter 11 cases cost more than this baseline.

Free Bankruptcy Filing with Upsolve

Chances are, if you’re thinking about filing for bankruptcy, you don’t have a “spare” $1,000 or more in disposable income just waiting to be handed over to an attorney. Take heart. There are ways to make paying for an attorney’s services more manageable and less of a financial hardship all at once. For example, if you’re filing for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you may be able to work with your attorney to set up a flexible payment plan that suits your family’s budget. Once you obtain bankruptcy relief and your monthly debt payments are lowered, it will become easier to pay your attorney’s fees a little at a time.

If you’re filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you can also ask your attorney for a flexible payment plan. You may also be given the option of paying a flat fee with no money down until the protections afforded by the automatic stay “kick in.” However, it’s also possible to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy without hiring an attorney at all. If that seems foolish and/or impossible, it’s not. Filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy is a pretty straightforward process. The Court provides filers with accessible, easy-to-follow directions for each step of the process. If you can afford attorney or feel you could significantly benefit from an attorney’s assistance, that’s great. Most bankruptcy attorneys will work with Chapter 7 filers to make paying their fees manageable. But if you’d like to save money by filing on your own, you can do so. Great, free resources exist for “pro se” Chapter 7 filers, including numerous state-specific, general, and even city-specific guides published on the Upsolve website. Upsolve is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Chapter 7 filers prepare their bankruptcy cases at little or no cost. Eligible filers can even benefit from personalized assistance from the Upsolve team for free.

We have world-class funders that include the U.S. government, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and leading foundations.
