Upsolve's funders include the Hewlett Foundation, the Robin Hood Foundation, and the Legal Services Corporation (LSC).

Position Overview:

Upsolve is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Development to lead our fundraising efforts. This role is crucial in supporting our mission to help low-income Americans overcome debt and improve their financial health. As the Director of Development, you will be responsible for sourcing potential fundraising opportunities and donors, developing and executing fundraising strategies, writing grants, and managing funder communications. You will work closely with the executive team to identify and pursue funding opportunities from individuals, foundations, and government entities. Experience with government grants is a bonus. You will report directly to the CEO. Working hours are flexible but should overlap significantly with East Coast hours.

The ideal candidate will have a robust background in fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations, with a proven track record of securing substantial funding in a mission-driven organization. You will possess strong strategic planning skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and a deep understanding of the fundraising landscape. Key Responsibilities:
  • Fundraising Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies that align with Upsolve’s mission and goals. Identify new fundraising opportunities and prioritize initiatives that drive revenue growth.

  • Prospecting: Identify and research potential funding sources, including individuals, foundations, and government programs. Develop strategies to engage and secure funding from these sources.

  • Grant Writing: Write and submit grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government entities. Ensure that proposals align with funder priorities and Upsolve’s strategic objectives.

  • Funder Communications: Build and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, and government agencies. Provide regular updates and reports to funders, ensuring transparency and accountability.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the executive team and other departments to ensure alignment and support for fundraising initiatives. Communicate progress and results effectively to stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and development.

  • Proven track record of successfully securing funding from individual donors, foundations, and government entities.

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills.

  • Familiarity with donor management software and fundraising platforms like LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Foundation Directory.

  • Experience with government grants is a bonus.

Compensation:

$125,000-$160,000
