Upsolve is a nonprofit technology startup that helps low-income Americans get a fresh start after financial shocks. We do this by automating Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Last year, at least 19 million American households would have benefitted from filing for bankruptcy but fewer than half a million did file. Earlier this year, we won the university-wide Harvard President’s Challenge as the top social impact startup. We’ve also been lucky to receive financial support from the Robin Hood Foundation, Princeton, Yale, and the Legal Services Corporation, which is funding our upcoming national expansion. To date, we have erased about $2,000,000 in debt for low-income New Yorkers.

Upsolve is a 501(c)(3) legal aid nonprofit that started in 2016. Our mission is to help low-income Americans in financial distress get a fresh start through Chapter 7 bankruptcy at no cost. We do this by combining the power of technology with pro bono attorneys. Spun out of Harvard Law School, our team includes lawyers, engineers, and judges. We have mission-driven funders that include the U.S. government, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and private charities.
