Position Overview:

The Upsolve Justice Fellowship is designed for passionate pre-law students eager to gain practical experience in the legal field before attending law school. This fellowship will allow you to contribute directly to Upsolve’s mission of combating poverty through legal and financial tools aimed at helping low-income Americans overcome debt and rebuild credit at scale.

In this role, you will conduct in-depth legal research, focusing on debt law, credit rebuilding, regulatory challenges, and consumer rights, all of which will inform the development of innovative products by Upsolve to aid low-income Americans in overcoming large amounts of burdensome debt and increasing their credit scores. You’ll also play a key part in providing valuable feedback to the product and engineering team to enhance the impact and effectiveness of our tools.

Additionally, your insights will be instrumental in strengthening Upsolve’s philanthropy efforts. Your research and feedback will help bolster our pitches to funders, which will enable us to grow our team and ultimately expand our ability to help more people.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on debt law, credit rebuilding, and other areas relevant to low-income communities.

  • Collaborate with the product and engineering teams to translate legal research into features and updates for Upsolve Assist, our AI-powered financial assistant.

  • Provide input on regulatory challenges that could impact product development and scaling.

  • Participate in discussions around policy and legal trends affecting Upsolve’s mission.

  • Contribute to fundraising efforts by providing insights that will strengthen our pitches to funders, which will help us grow our team and expand our impact.

  • Work closely with the leadership team to develop strategies for legal compliance across different states.

Qualifications:
  • Understanding of racial inequality in the United States.

  • A track record of helping low-income communities or a personal connection to our work.

  • Strong research skills.

  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent writing and problem-solving skills, with experience breaking down complicated topics for audiences.

  • Top-tier empathy and organizational skills.

Compensation:

$60,000 per year

Fellowship Duration:

Minimum of one year, with the potential for extension based on performance.
