Who We're Looking For

As the 2nd engineer joining our team, you will be foundational to the impact of the organization and helping us reach all low income Americans with a product that can help them through some of the toughest times of their live. Growth engineering delivers direct impact and also generates revenue that keeps our nonprofit running. In this role you will have the opportunity to be creative, adaptive, and ground breaking for what’s possible in the social impact sector.  You will encounter situations that no one at Upsolve has encountered before and will be responsible for persisting through to get a solution shipped. We are looking for team members with the following traits and experience:

  • You have a strong focus on impact.

  • You have a willingness to learn whatever it takes to reach impact.

  • You love data, analytics, and ways to measure features you ship.

  • You ship incrementally to move fast and can communicate how the team needs to handle product transitions.

  • You can navigate and extend a backend to support your incredible frontend experiences.

  • You’ve woven complex combinations of services and tools to ensure solid user experiences for users or internal teams.

  • Given wireframes and our React/Styled Components component library, you can maintain design consistency.

  • Working and talking with users who rely on our product to change to the course of their lives and the generations following.

  • An environment for rapid experimentation and ownership

  • You’re pragmatic in knowing when to refactor and when to ship.

  • 3+ years’ experience writing production-grade code in a modern programming language.

  • Professional experience incorporating Google Analytics, Search Console, event based tracking (ex: Amplitude), and SQL into your workflow.

  • Desired: Professional experience with NodeJS and AWS.

Upsolve is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that started in 2016. Our mission is to help low-income families who cannot afford lawyers file bankruptcy for free, using an online web app. Spun out of Harvard Law School, our team includes lawyers, engineers, and judges. We have world-class funders that include the U.S. government, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and leading foundations. It's one of the greatest civil rights injustices of our time that low-income families can’t access their basic rights when they can’t afford to pay for help. Combining direct services and advocacy, we’re fighting this injustice.
