What it Feels Like to Relieve $100 Million in Debt

This past Tuesday, we announced via a press release that we've relieved $100 million in debt for low-income families across the United States. This is over 2,000 low-income families who have transformed their lives by using our Upsolve. Most of them have come to us in the last year. And we've been extremely efficient with our capital. We've spent roughly $2 million since we've started, which means that for every $1 that we've spent, we've relieved $50 in debt.

I feel lucky that several friends, funders, supporters, and mentors reached out to me following the announcement to congratulate our team on the accomplishment. Dozens of people have done so much to help me as we've built Upsolve, and it feels nice to be able to show them that through their help, they've had a huge concrete impact on the world as well. I love that we're able to let our funders know that their initial bet on our team paid off in a big way, and that it'll continue to pay off.

I also enjoy how we're now able to talk about Upsolve in a different way. When Jonathan Petts and I started Upsolve in 2016, a big part of our job was explaining to people what we wanted to do. But now when we share what we do at Upsolve, we also get to talk about what we've accomplished. That's more fun than just talking about what you want to do, as we now have a track record that we're able to point to and stories of amazing Upsolve users.

Finally, our $100 million in debt relieved accomplishment is a reminder of what is possible with our work. It has showed us what we're capable of, and we're excited to keep it up.
